Entering the new year, I committed to being consistent on Linked In. Expansion of my network, personal growth, and strategic business development were a few of my motivators. However, whenever I opened the app, I had no desire to post. I am continuously cringed by the repetitive posting formats, self-promotion, and "so-called" established experts dominating my feed. While I acknowledge the value of these approaches, I couldn't shake the feeling of homogenization, a "formula" being followed rather than genuine conversation. I recently listened to a podcast exploring the importance of intellectual humility and curiosity. The presenter's point - "a world that celebrates knowingness over creating space for curiosity" - stuck out to me. From this podcast, I acknowledged my issue with LinkedIn; I wanted to refrain from contributing to an echo chamber of expertise; I was, and remain, on a learning journey. So, here's my experiment: using LinkedIn differently. I'll share my thoughts, experiences, and questions, embracing my unique voice and structure. Whether this approach fosters growth on the app is secondary. My core aim is to inspire, making it easier for future generations who look and sound like me to engage authentically with Linked In without the pressure of performative expertise, constant sharing of achievements, and not remaining authentic to themselves.
